How often should an air filter be changed?

How often you should change your air filter depends on the type of filter, and the environment in which it is used. High activity in the home or building, carpets, and pets may shorten the life of a filter, as these things increase dust levels in homes. The best way to find out how long a given type of filter will last in your home, is to examine it periodically and take note as to how long it lasts. Hold the filter up to daylight, if you can see light through it, the filter is still good. If you can't see light, replace the filter. Here’s how long different types of filters typically last under normal use:

Polyester Pads will typically last 1-3 operating months

1” Fiberglass filters will typically last 1 operating month

1” Polyester filters will typically last 1 operating month

2” Fiberglass or Polyester filters will typically last 1 - 3 operating months

1” Pleated Filters will typically last 3 operating months

2” Pleated Filters will typically last 4 operating months

4” Pleated Filters will typically last 6 - 9 operating months 

5” Pleated Filters will typically last 6 - 12 operating months
